Curriculum

Module 1: Conduct an online live broadcast

Learning hours: 1 lesson, 3 hours in total

Online live broadcasting is a mainstream tool for new media. Companies can overcome geographical restrictions to reach their target customers all over the world via live streaming technology, creating huge business opportunities.
This unit explains the most popular live streaming technology and its application in different businesses, including web seminars, product launching events etc.
There is in class exercise simulating real online live streaming cases in order to let student go through the technology and skills required. This can certainly bring long-term propaganda efficiency to the company!

• Introduce the equipment and techniques used for live streaming
• Understand what is Stream Media and how it operates
• Introduce different social media’s live streaming methods Live streaming platforms
• Use OBS software to conduct live streaming

• Practices: Use streaming technology to conduct a 30-minute high-quality live broadcasting on social media

Module 2: Planning and production of commercial video

Learning hours: 1 lesson, 3 hours in total

Instructor will first share the analysis of rising trend of new media and how it affects the business development of corporates with students.

Instructor will provide some successful local and foreign cases to show students that video is one of the tools that can effectively disseminate corporate messages.
Students will learn the full production process of a commercial video and the corresponding equipment and technology required during training.

• Storytelling

• Film structure
• Film composition

• Practices: Under the guidance of the instructor, students will plan their own video content for their company, including storyline and storyboards.

Module 3: Shooting commercial video

Learning hours: 1 lesson, 4 hours in total

This unit teaches students the skills required for shooting commercial videos, including storyboards, lighting and radio, etc.
Instructor will analyse the use of different equipment. Under the guidance of the instructor, students will produce their own company videos based on their own stories.

Module content:
• Create storyboard
• Exposure triangle
• Video format
• The usage of lighting and radio equipment
• Introduce 2K, 4K, 3D shooting equipment
• Practices: Under the guidance of the instructor, students will produce their own short videos and instructor will immediately make assessments and corrections.

Module 4: Post-production

Learning hours: 1 lesson, 4 hours in total

This unit mainly teaches students how to use computer software to conduct post-production for original films.
Students will learn how to digitalise photos and videos, such as noise elimination, video stabilization, colour grading and image quality analysis, etc.
Meanwhile, students will also learn the relationship between different input formats and quality.

• Basic theory of film editing
• Colour Grading
• Image quality analysis
• Premiere Pro teaching
• Introduction to film editing

•Practices: Under the guidance of the instructor, students will participate in the post-production of the film

Module 5: Adding visual effects

Learning hours: 1 lesson, 4 hours in total

This unit mainly teaches how to add visual effects (VFX) to the film in order to highlight creativity to customers and heighten the infectious power of the film.
Students will learn how to add different special effects to the film, including the use of computer technology to combine backgrounds.
Instructor will also talk about the programming principles behind the special effects.

• Visual effects (VFX)
• Introduction to Affect Effect
• Use computer technology to combine backgrounds (Green Screen)
• Chroma key compositing
• Practices: Learn to add visual effects to the film to enhance infectious power of the film.
